Kallithea, our village, is the seat of the Municipality of Paralia. The Municipality was created in 1998 under the Kapodistrias Law. Kallithea is a fertile area in the east of Katerini, near the shores of Thermaikos Gulf. The distance from the Pieria Capital, the city of Katerini, is 8km.
Central church of the village is St. Stylianos, and there is also the church of St. Nicholas. In Kallithea are situated the town hall, the Citizens Service Center, cultural and sports associations, an agricultural cooperative, rural clinic, primary school, kindergarten and a municipal athletic stadium.
Due to its privileged location, Paralia, known as Katerini Paralia, became a major tourist center with hotels, entertainment and recreation places, etc. The extensive sandy beach and the train network, which is very close to the village, contributed also to the development of the region.
The Municipality organizes various cultural events with religious, artistic and sports content. Particular interest show the events of Maritime Week, which includes exhibitions, boats demonstrations, sailors matches, traditional dances, music shows and folklore events, in which take part countries from Africa and the East. In the area is organized the international tournament for youth called «Myticas Cup» and the world championship of body building.
Finally, it should be mentioned that our region combines sea and mountain, as Mount Olympus dominates in Pieria Prefecture. Olympus is the tallest mountain in Greece (Mitikas, 2918m.) and it is famous worldwide, because ancient Greeks had placed there the residence of the Twelve "Olympian" Gods.
